The Importance of Speech Language Pathologists in Schools

Today we’re going to go over the importance of having a Speech Language Pathologist in schools and why this should become the norm. Many of our school age kids fall behind because of different communication disorders. Without anyone to help and give them the extra help they need, a child will continue to exhibit problems understanding others, using verbal speech to communicate, correct grammar, and even with social communication. Speech Language Pathologists, or SLPs, are especially trained professionals with either a masters or a doctoral degree, a state license or a Department of Education certification. SLPs may also choose to acquire a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Not only are they highly qualified, but they work with kids who have communication problems on a day-to-day basis. This means the student will be able to keep up with their classmates with the help from a professional.

Here is where South Florida Speech Solutions comes in. South Florida Speech Solutions has been working with schools in South Florida for over 10 years. Contributing to our community at public, charter, and private schools helping students excel at what were once their weak points.

There’s a variety of ways this is achieved. For example, an SLP can help a child individually or in a small group. In a school setting they teach the student with the book they are assigned in class and target problems that arise or by coordinating with a special education teacher. (3)

By continuing to help SLPs like South Florida Speech Solutions become more accessible to schools, we can help many kids excel who would otherwise have trouble learning through no fault of their own. Together, we can make our communities better!

Contact your school administrators and inquire about their accessibility to a Speech Language Pathologist. Should one not be available - or even if one is, remember that Gina Grandchamp-Milan M.S.
