Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions.

We’ve compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions in hopes to help add clarity to some of the ones you may have. However, should your question or answer not be found below, please contact us directly and we’ll happily answer it. We will get back to you within 24-hours.

Are you taking new patients?

Yes, we are taking new patients. The majority of our patients are referred to us by their physician. However, we also take those that come to us directly.

What type of health insurance do you take?

We work with most private insurance companies, Medicaid, and also offer private pay sessions and evaluations. The health insurance companies we work with are: Aetna Health Insurance, Ambetter, Florida Healthy Kids, Humana Medicaid, Medicaid, Molina Healthcare, Staywell Health Plan, Simply Healthcare, and WellCare Health Plans. Please reach out to us at info@southflspeech.com should you have any questions.

Can you help us figure out if our child has a speech impediment and what it may be?

Certainly. Gina and her team can also help answer your speech language therapy questions as well as help you navigate the world of speech language disorders. We will first schedule and conduct a free screening, which will give us an idea of the patient’s speech fluency level and what steps to take next.

How long does treatment take?

All speech language therapy treatments are designed specifically for the patient after a careful screening and evaluation. Every patient is different. Some treatments can take 3-6 months, while others can be longer depending on the speech fluency level the patient is in.

Are there any speech language therapy exercises I can help with at home?

Definitely. We love to hear that our patients' parents and caregivers want to contribute to our efforts. We have found that those who follow through with these home speech language therapy exercises are able to achieve their speech language goals at a faster rate than those who only attend the speech language therapy sessions.

Are iPhones and iPads bad for children?

Unfortunately, a cell phone device or iPad can directly impact a child’s development. A 2017 study by Dr. Catherine Birkin reported that for each 30 minute increase in handheld screen time, children experienced a 49% increased risk of expressive speech delay.
