Reasons to Start Speech Therapy This Summer

We are deep into the Florida summer and we wanted to reach out and explain a little bit about ourselves and why summertime is so important in the world of speech therapy. As summertime comes around and the kids are home for the summer, we as parents tend to let our foot off the gas a bit (guilty!). Relaxation is key in life, and some time off from the busy morning rush of getting all the little ones prepped and on their way to school is well earned. Summertime is also the time people tend to take vacations with their family and make some memories. We agree with you, but we also wanted to share why summertime is the best time to begin their speech therapy journey.

At South Florida Speech Solutions we make it one of our missions to improve the life of anyone that comes through our doors by offering the best understanding and therapy you’ll find from a Speech Language Pathologist group. We offer free screenings, which help us get to know our new potential patient. If a problem is in fact identified we move forward with a detailed speech evaluation. This helps us set goals and teach both parent and child how to beat that pesky speech hurdle.

This is the best time to start your child’s speech therapy journey, because of the countless activities that we can do with them. Incorporating what is learned in our sessions into everyday summertime fun will help the child progress quicker by associating the lessons with things they enjoy. Practice repeating the names of things you both can see around the pool or beach and incorporate the exercises provided by us into your activities.

Practice makes perfect and we encourage parents to engage with their child as much as possible, so both - the parents and the child - can become familiar with the exercises provided by the speech pathologist.

You might be thinking… I have a busy schedule all planned for summer and don’t know how I’ll be able to make the time for speech pathology lessons. That’s absolutely fine! We offer both in-person and online speech therapy, which many patients prefer as they can do it from the comfort of their home.

Summertime is also ideal because there’s no school and therefore the child won’t feel overwhelmed with work. Waiting until school starts to begin addressing a speech difference can make things worse. The sooner we start, the better off they will be. A kid is more open to learning when they have more time to do so.

Getting started in the summertime is ideal. The demand for speech pathologists tends to be much higher at the beginning of the school year, after a parent learns from a teacher or the school that their child is exhibiting some speech challenges and is falling behind. We recommend not getting far into the school year to begin their speech therapy journey.

Speech therapy is not only for children. In fact, many adults come through our doors to fix what they fear is unfixable. A lisp that has been hounding them their whole life, a problem saying certain words or multiple syllables, even accent reductions. We welcome everyone from any age to schedule an appointment, so we may identify exactly what we’re dealing with and move forward in our journey to beat it. We are here for you and welcome new patients.

Thank you so much for continuing to check our blogs and for showing interest in the world of South Florida Speech Solutions and speech therapy.
